Drink Your Food and Eat Your Drinks ( The Power of Digestion )

Drink Your FoodRemember when you were a kid and mom would badger you on the importance of chewing your food? Whether you had to recite the alphabet with each bite or
simply count every bite, mom was actually teaching you a very important lesson in digestive health. Even though mom was probably just making sure a big chunk of food didn’t get stuck in your throat, she was teaching you a lot more than how to survive each meal.

Often we pay a lot of lip service to the word ‘digestion’ but the truth is that ineffective digestion can cause a host of digestive problems including bowel gas. But beyond the discomfort and embarrassment of untimely gas, proper digestion will ensure your body is getting the nutrients it needs to run like the well-oiled machine it is.

It probably sounds strange and counter-intuitive to drink your foods and eat your drinks but by the end of this article you will understand why it’s important. Continue reading “Drink Your Food and Eat Your Drinks ( The Power of Digestion )”

Bowel Disorders Part 2 – Colitis

colitis symptomsWhen it comes to bowel disorders there are many reasons why we suffer needlessly. First and foremost is that many disorders, like colitis, share symptoms with other illnesses like the flu and food poisoning. Then there is the issue of self-diagnosis, a recent phenomenon that only serves to exacerbate the problem and prolong treatment. There is a major difference between a simple upset stomach and a serious bowel disorder, but it is better to be safe and seek treatment than be sorry that you didn’t.

Specifically I want to focus on colitis because people often go for long periods of time without seeking treatment and that can lead to lifelong colon problems. The good news is that colitis isn’t so dangerous as to be life threatening, but the symptoms are uncomfortable and unpleasant that you’ll want to treat the colitis right away and prevent it when you can.

Before you can even begin to talk about treating or preventing colitis you need to know what it is, what it looks and feels like and the causes of colitis.

How Detoxing Can Reduce Bowel Gas

Detoxing Eliminate GasFlatulence. It is something we all do, yet none of us ever talks about aside from the occasional joke. But whether you call it flatulence, cutting the cheese,
farting, stepping on a duck or plain old bowel gas, it is a byproduct of a normal and healthy functioning bowel…for most of us.

When you suffer from a bowel disorder however, excessive gas is a telltale sign that something is up. There can be many reasons that you are suffering from bowel gas as a symptom of various bowel disorders, some of those can have very unhealthy consequences if left untreated for a significant length of time.

Whether your flatulence is due to diet, disorder or sickness, there are things you can due to reduce the amount of bowel gas you expel.

Bowel Disorders Part 1 – What Is Constipation?

bowel disorder_constipatedWhen we have “upset stomachs” or any other uncomfortable feeling in the tummy region our first instinct is to retrace our culinary steps to see what food or beverage is the culprit. While often it may be a bad burger or expired milk causing your digestive system to go haywire, it may also be emotional problems or your body’s way of telling you that something far worse than a bad meal is affecting you.

In our society we tend to shy away from discussions on “messy” topics such as digestive or bowel disorders. Unfortunately that is why so many of us are afflicted with bowel disorders, because it is often the last thing we think of when we feel ill.

Think of the last time you felt unwell; what did you do first? Retrace the food you ate to determine what could have possibly made you sick? Did you jog your memory to see if you were recently near someone who was sick? Or did you recount your recent lack of sleep, levels of stress and anxiety? Chances are good your investigation stopped after you remember that late night curry bowl, but the truth is the insomnia or stress is a more likely culprit for your bowel problems.

It isn’t just me who believes this either. Dr. Bernard Jensen (45) has often stated that emotional strain is one of the largest strains on the bowel, and it is the one which we are least often aware. In fact Jensen believes it is a symbiotic relationship: our emotions affect our bowels and our bowels affect our emotions. Since our daily lives are filled with a range of emotions we will start with the most common of all bowel disorders: constipation.

Healing Symptoms of Detoxification

Healing Symptoms of DetoxificationStarting on the road to good health isn’t always smooth sailing. Those who are just beginning to detoxify the body will experience a wide range of reactions, which can be quite scary if you are not informed. The decision to detox is a great choice you have made to restore your body to optimal health by removing harmful, disease-causing toxins. This decision however, does come at a price.

Dr. Richard Anderson, N.D., N.M.D., describes this healing crisis as the “completion of a cycle”. The beginning of this cycle started years ago when a disease or illness starts and impairs the body, and it ends when the body reacts to the evacuation of those sickness producing elements within your body. If you don’t know what is happening to your body you won’t know how to react to physical reactions you are experiencing.

Understanding the healing symptoms of detoxification is as important to your good health as the detox itself. Many ignorant detox dieters freak out about the symptoms they experience and when combined with uninformed loved ones can spell a regression back to those toxic behaviors that cause your sickness in the first place.

By the time you finish reading this article you will be prepared to handle the healing symptoms of detoxification to ensure you complete your first (or next) detox.

Why Detox Diets Work

why detox diets workWhen most of us hear about detox diets it is usually in reference to some celebrity crash dieting for a role or our office mate trying to clear out toxins after a weekend of indulgence. Because of this, detox dieting often gets a bad reputation as an unhealthy weight loss method, which is unfortunate because detox diets can do much more than help you achieve your New Year’s resolution!

You’re probably thinking, why do I need to detox anyway, does the body do that already? Yes, it does. But most of us eat so much junk in the form of processed meats, high fructose corn syrup, refined sugars and pre-packaged foods that the body currently has more work than it can handle. Detox diets are all natural efficiency boosters—helping your kidney and lungs, among other parts—get rid of inhaled, consumed and slathered on toxins.

Contrary to what you have been told about detox diets, they do work. The caveat is that you use the right diet with the right combination of ingredients and you do not go overboard. Just as it takes time for these toxins to build up in the body, so too will it take time to become toxin-free and healthy.

So…let’s talk about why detox diets do work before you get started. Continue reading “Why Detox Diets Work”

Reverse Bad Behaviors Through Detoxification

reverse unhealthy behaviors exerciseFor so many of us, life gets in the way of good intentions and healthy living. Of course you would love to go to sleep at a decent hour, if you could get home from work at a decent hour, cook a healthy dinner and relax before the clock strikes 2 AM. Likewise, you probably wish you had enough time in the day to eat a healthy meal made with fresh vegetables and natural ingredients, but there are simply not enough hours in the world in which most of us live.

Unfortunately this fast-paced eat on the go and sleep when you’re dead way of life is taking a huge toll on our health. We are fatter than we have ever been in the history of humankind, we are more tired and less focused. These three factors combined form a ‘perfect storm’ of sorts that come together to create unhealthy, and sometimes dangerous, health problems.

No matter how hard you try, reversing these bad and unhealthy behaviors can be difficult, if not seemingly impossible, to accomplish. Reversing these unhealthy behaviors is a good reason on its own to take up a detox diet. Detoxing encourages healthy living, period. This means eating right, cooking (and eating) healthy, sleeping enough each night and making time for physical activity.

If you have a bad behavior you’re feeling desperate to get rid of, read on to learn why it is so important that you do toss it aside and quickly. Continue reading “Reverse Bad Behaviors Through Detoxification”

What Is The Best Way To Detox?

best way to detox healthy dietWhen you mention the words ‘detox diet’ to most people you will be met with a distasteful groan or exasperated eye roll. The mostly negative view of detox diets is due in part to the high rate of failure and the harmful side effects of a bad detox. What is important to know, is that those bad things are really “operator failure” rather than anything actually associated with a proper detox diet.

By ‘operator failure’ I mean it is something that the person detoxing does—that is not in line with suggested detox dieting guidelines—that leads to failure. Many people look for a shortcut through the detoxification process and unfortunately there simply is no shortcut. The only thing that can guarantee a successful detox is following all the recommended steps.

Contrary to what many popular fad diets will tell you, there is a right way and a wrong way to detox. The guidelines listed below will help you discover the best way to detox. Your next detox will be a success! Continue reading “What Is The Best Way To Detox?”
